Thanks for the response, I'll give it a shot!
I was also reading in other threads that it may not ve necessary to submit an 8949, is this true and a summary will suffice?
It doesnt seem like this works on desktop. I went through and all it did was add the summary and never asked to upload a document.
Not attaching the 1099-B wont cause a rejection. At the very worst, you will receive a CP2000 letter stating their numbers do not match what you inputted. If you entered it incorrectly and attached the 1099-B, you would get the same letter. It is just to make life easier for them.
In this case it's crypto related and there is not a 1099-b to be compared to. Thats why I was trying to figure out how to attach a 8949 but it doesnt seem like its possible on the desktop version which is just a weird thing to not be able to do.
For TurboTax CD/Download you can simply mail the information using the following instruction. If you are e-filing your tax return, then mail your statements or back up detial along with Form 8453 to:
Internal Revenue Service
Attn: Shipping and Receiving, 0254
Receipt and Control Branch
Austin, TX 73344-0254
If you need a blank Form 8453, you can download this pdf, enter your address information and check the box for Form 8949 (this form is really just a cover sheet).
Ok thank you. Not sure how I will pull that off as it is 80+ pages.
Why is there not the ability to submit this electronically with the downloadable version but there is via online?
If I just buy the online version can I attach a pdf?
Might have to annoyingly do this as printing out 100 pages and shipping seems much more difficult than just buying a new version. I likely won't use turbotax again because this is insane but it may be what I have to do.
I need to attach a copy of my VA disability award letter to my federal and state returns. How do i do that?
The best action for you would be to keep the letter with your tax file should the IRS question it later. It is not something that is attached to your tax return. This is not something that can be uploaded to attach to your e-file return.
