There is not a way to claim a stimulus payment based on a child that was born in 2020.
The stimulus payments are based on either your 2018 or 2019 tax return and a child born in 2020 would not be included on either one. You will be able to claim the additional stimulus payment for your newborn baby when you file your 2020 tax return.
I had a newborn in Dec 2020. I am now filing my 2020 tax return using TurboTax Deluxe.
I do not see any way to claim this stimulus payment (no questions or prompts from TT).
How do I claim the $500 + $600 =$1,100 stimulus for my newborn?
Congratulations.
Enter your baby's name and social security number.
Go through all of the questions
When it asks if the baby lived with you all year, say yes and make sure that 12 months is filled in.
When all of the questions are correctly answered your stimulus amount for your baby will be included.
We have also newborn in 2020, didn't get any stimulus check for newborn.
I am doing exactly what you are suggested. Entered my child information without any issue and able to get $2,000 tax break.
I am filling my stimulus check amounts ($2,400 + $1,200) for my wife and myself.
I am expecting $500 + $600 =$1,100 stimulus for my newborn but TurboTax says "your total stimulus payment is $3,600 and we are confident you got every stimulus dollar you qualified for" which it TOTALL WRONG.
Glad not paid for deluxe service yet, please help me to get correct Recovery Rebate Tax Credit or I have to fill with other websites. $1,100 is too much to walk away.
The amounts for the 2020 Economic payments are as follows:
Your total should be $4,700 for all three of you, for both stimulus payments combined, if you received the full amount from the IRS.
If you already received a stimulus payment (even if it was just a portion) then the software will reduce the Recovery Rebate Credit. You said that you didn't get any stimulus check for newborn. Did you get any stimulus payment at all (for the two of you)?
To edit your stimulus payment information, head over to the FEDERAL TAXES tab on top. Click on Federal Review, and in the search box on the right, type stimulus. You can then Jump to stimulus and edit the information.
Yes, we get the stimulus payment for both of us totaling $3,600. We are missing remaining $1,100 for you newborn child.
When I enter my stimulus payment amount to TurboTax, software says "your total stimulus payment is $3,600 and we are confident you got every stimulus dollar you qualified for" which is miscalculating.
Also I make sure that our child (dependent) information entered correctly.
Make sure that the newborn child is correctly reported as a dependent on your tax return. IRS FAQ state:
A qualifying child must have either:
An ITIN won’t be accepted for a qualifying child.
Note: When the qualifying child is claimed by spouses filing a joint return, at least one spouse must have an SSN that’s valid for employment for a qualifying child to be considered. If the return isn’t filed by married spouses filing a joint return, the taxpayer filing the return must have an SSN that’s valid for employment for a qualifying child to be considered.
The TurboTax software adds together the entries that you made for receiving stimulus check 1 and stimulus check 2.
Then the software computes the amount of your stimulus check amounts based upon the information that has been entered into the tax software.
If you are due an additional amount, it will be issued as a Rebate Recovery Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return.
If you believe that you are due a Rebate Recovery Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return, then you should:
If there is a difference, it is in one or both of these situations.
In TurboTax Online, you are prompted to input stimulus check 1 and stimulus check 2 information under Review down the left hand side of the screen.
You can also access your stimulus check choices by following these steps:

I submitted my taxes and realized that the stimulus amount never included the 1,200 for my son who was born in 2020. It was confusing because TurboTax stated that my stimulus amount looked good even though I claimed my son correctly.
Will I have to amend my taxes in order to receive the stimulus check for my newborn?
It depends whether or not the Recovery Rebate Credit is included in your return. If your son is eligible, you could get $500 from the first stimulus payment plus $6-00 from the 2nd stimulus payment for a total of $1,100 for him.
See: 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit — Topic G: Correcting issues after the 2020 tax return is filed
To check if an amount was included, download a PDF of the return that was filed and check page 2, Line 30 of Form 1040.
To get your 2020 Form 1040 download, from the left menu, select Tax Home. Then, follow these steps:
THIS WORKED
To edit your stimulus payment information, head over to the FEDERAL TAXES tab on top. Click on Federal Review, and in the search box on the right, type stimulus. You can then Jump to stimulus and edit the information.
Then you can enter what you received. Which for all of us that had a newborn in 2020 is less than what we we supposed to be given.
Here is information about the third stimulus payment, and here is a TurboTax article about the American Rescue Plan. The third stimulus should go off of your 2020 tax return.
I believe everyone here is looking for a solution on how to make sure they are getting the first two stimulus for their newborns in 2020. Up to $500 and $600 per dependent.
I have confirmed all the information in this thread and am still not receiving my child tax credit. I confirmed that I filled out their information correctly, dependency correctly, and that we still qualify based on AGI per the IRS website, even if it is modified due to AGI. There is an issue with TurboTax calculating this credit and I'd like to understand how to fix this. I purchased Deluxe for a reason, and this is not helping me.
Does the AGI % reduction apply to both the 1st and 2nd Stimulus independently?
