Here are the procedures for both the computer and the phone.

TurboTax Online

Sign in to your TurboTax account.
Go to My Info and look for the File an extension option.
In some versions, it appears under Tax Tools in the left menu.
Follow the prompts to e‑file your extension (TurboTax submits Form 4868 for you).
