If you did not file your 2021 return successfully--sorry--but the refund has been forfeited and will not be paid.  You can still get a refund for a 2022 return.  First you need to check to see if your returns were actually filed, or if they were rejected.

What does it say in your online TT account for those tax years?  Does it say your e-file was accepted?  Or does it say something else like "rejected", "printed," or "ready to mail?"   If it does not say accepted then the returns were not filed unless you put them in envelopes and mailed them yourself.

If you discover that the returns were not filed, you can print them, sign and date them in ink, and mail them in.

Mail each year separately.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

If it says the e-file was accepted then you need to check on the IRS refund site.  That site is not showing results for 2021 any more but will show returns for 2022, 2023 or 2024.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 35a of your 2022, 2023 or 2024 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

If you chose to have your fees deducted from your federal refund:

Santa Barbara Tax Products Group, LLC  (SBTPG) is the bank that handles the Refund Processing Service when you choose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your refund. This option also has an additional charge from the bank that processes the transaction.

You can contact them SBTPG, toll-free, at 1-877-908-7228 or go to their secure website www.sbtpg.com

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday

When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 3 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.
