home office excess real estate tax

In the home office deduction topic TurboTax Home & Business asks about excess real estate taxes.

My real estate tax does not exceed $10K, but the combination of real estate tax and other state and local taxes definitely does.

Do I have “excess real estate tax”?  After completing the itemized deductions, would I determine amount of state and local taxes above $10K and and enter it as excess real estate tax in the home office deduction topic  (Form 8829)?

Yes, you have excess Real Estate Tax.

You need to determine how much excess real estate tax you have. The excess is determined proportionately. So if you had 10k in state taxes and 5k in real estate taxes, 1/3 of the taxes are real estate taxes. You have 5k over the 10,000 limit, divided by 1/3 is 1,667 which is the excess real estate taxes.

Where do you report the excess real estate tax if you are not itemizing?

I have a form 2106 but no schedule C (and hence no 8829)
