[Help] Lost 2018 TT file...need to rebuild...
Somehow the TT data file for 2018 is missing.
2017 data file is available, and I have a full PDF of theTT return for 2018. (summary through final page.)
(also no hidden backups, stored data files etc except one first version draft.)
Datafile has a lot of past years work, includes loss carry forwards, depreciation schedules etc. Need 2018 datafile to start 2019 taxes.
Many of the fields are calculations, finding it difficult to rebuild the 2018 data file. I would not know all the questions of the 'path' for each of the elements - just what is printed by TurboTax to file.
-----
What ways do you suggest as the quickest way to rebuild the data file, and where the printed results match the filed return of 2018?
Thank you for any input.

If you used TurboTax Online in 2018, at the Sign In page, under 'Show' by 'Your Tax Returns and Documents', select 2018 and ask to download the .tax file (screenshot).
If you used TurboTax Desktop and can't find your 2018 .tax file, you can upload your PDF file into TurboTax Desktop for 2019.

We use the desktop version of Home & Business. I will look into the upload function and want to say thank you for mentioning.
Phone support stated I would need TT H&B for 2018, and that would be easy to just copy the numbers over (manual data entry) however I was not finding that to be the case....and components that have no entry point but are calculations based on other fields and data .
So I have gone through the import process of the PDF a few times now. While the import appear to capture our name/address information, that is about it. Nothing from 2018 visible. No data what so ever. What am I missing here?
The import, well, appeared to work but no information beyond our names and address transferred. ?
Since you used the desktop version, Turbo Tax will not have a copy of your return saved. It would be best to contact the IRS to order a transcript of your 2018 return in order to file your 2019 return.
I have a PDF TurboTax copy (and scans) of the signed 2018 return. What extra benefit would there be in having a transcript from IRS?
No, you don't need a transcript from the IRS. If the data won't load entirely from your PDF copy, you may need to manually enter some of the data.
