Guidance on inputting information from my 1099-B into TurboTax online

I need guidance on inputting information from my 1099-B into TurboTax to ensure that the Gain/Loss amount is accurate. When I enter summary information, specifically Total Proceeds (the sum of all Box 1d) and Total Cost (the sum of all Box 1e), the resulting Gain/Loss figure doesn't match the accuracy of the 1099-B. It seems the only way to achieve accuracy is by subtracting the Wash Sale Loss (the sum of Box 1g) from the sum of all Box 1e. Is this the correct method for accuracy?

If your are entering a summary of all transactions some of which are adjusted, you have to enter the wash sale disallowed loss also.

You will be making the mail-in election.

To avoid that

Enter the wash sales separately, then use the totals on the form 8949 Line 2 to know how much to subtract from the consolidated totals to get the totals for transactions without adjustment.

(you won't find this calculation on consolidated 1099-B)

No mailing is necessary.

Or, if you summarize wash sales only (Line 1b or 8b, with the unadjusted subtotals on Line 1a or Line 8a, you only have to mail the details of wash sales to the IRS.

You'd probably need to trick TurboTax to do it that way. I'm not sure.

If you summarize (recommended),

you only need to supply details of 1099-B covered transactions with adjustments that are not listed on your e-Filed Form 8949, and all non-covered transactions not listed there.

In other words, for active investors, generally this is a list of the Wash Sales.
You may supply details on your separate Form 8949, or other document with the same information and in the same manner as Form 8949.

complain to your broker, ask them why they won't give you two selectable reports to import:
transactions with adjustments and,
transactions without adjustments.
