Got rejected code 18001

This means that something on your return doesn't match what the IRS has in their database.

Here's how you can fix it:

Sign in to your account and select the Fix my return button. Follow any “fix it” instructions to update the information causing the rejection.

Note: Not all rejections will have explicit guides to fix the information. You’ll need to navigate to the program area to address the cause of the rejection.

Time-saving Tip: If what you originally entered is correct, you won't be able to e-file. There's probably a data mismatch at the government, a dependent that's already been claimed, or some other situation beyond your control that prevents your return from being e-filed. In this case, your only option would be to print and mail in your return. This article will give you instruction on how to print and mail your return.

Got rejected code 18001

If you reject code is IND-180-01 the IRS rejected your return because the Identity Protection Personal Identification Number (IP-PIN) you entered doesn't match IRS records.

If you have one and you did not enter it into the tax return you can fix it now by adding your IP PIN.

The IRS has a dedicated site for IP PIN retrieval. You can also try contacting the  Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) for assistance.

How to retrieve your IP PIN online

You may use our Get an IP PIN online tool to retrieve your current IP PIN. If you don’t already have an account on IRS.gov, you will be asked to register for an account and validate your identity.

If you previously created an online account and obtained an IP PIN, access Get an IP PIN and log in to your account. You may be required to verify your identity again due to our increased account security.

How to get your IP PIN reissued

If you're unable to retrieve your IP PIN online, you may call us at 800-908-4490 for specialized assistance, Monday - Friday, 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. your local time (Alaska & Hawaii follow Pacific Time), to have your IP PIN reissued. An assistor will verify your identity and mail your IP PIN to your address of record within 21 days.

Please update if you have more questions.
