How come I have no option to file my tax for free? The only option I have is to pay the $29.99 to upgrade to Plus and another $39.99 when I’m ready to file?

Free Edition is free as long as you file a 1040EZ (or 1040A with the standard deduction) and don't select any add-ons or upgrades.
