Form 8938 after efile

I start tax filling by free version of turbotax.
Turbotax is really easy and nice tool. Thanks !!

But I have one problem.

During the process, turbotax said I need to upgrade to turbotax delux to complete since I have foreign bank account.
I upgraded it to turbotax and just following the instruction, completed e-filed. But never navigated to Form 8938.

Question is
1. Do I still need to fill Form 8938 ?
2. If the answer is yes, how can I fill the form 8938 after e-fileing ?

I searched this question on the forum, but can not find out the link to 8938.

3. If the answer for #2 is that I can not do filling 8938 form after e-filing.
I  probably need to file 8938 by myself...
Then, how can I refund my upgrade fee $60 ?

Thanks for the help.

The free version of TurboTax does not handle the foreign bank account information.  That is why you needed to upgrade to Deluxe.  You may not need to file any forms as the Form 1040 asks everyone if they had a foreign bank account.  If yes, then the form wants to know if your accounts totaled more than $10,000 and where the account is located.  You can see the questions at the bottom of Schedule B.

There are 2 different forms that may apply to you.

  1. Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts:  The instructions for the FBAR are: A United States person that has a financial interest in or signature authority over foreign financial accounts must file an FBAR if the aggregate value of the foreign financial accounts exceeds $10,000 at any time during the calendar year.

If this applies to you, you will need to complete the filing on the following website on or  before April 15th:  FBAR Filing  You cannot file this with your tax return.  It can only be entered online. This deadline has NOT been extended to July 15th.

        2.  Form 8938:   Please see the following information for filing Form 8938.  Comparison of Form 8938 and FBAR  Form 8938

If it applies to you and it was not included with your tax return, you will need to wait until your return is processed and you have received any refunds or paid any balances due. Once that has been completed, you will need to amend your return to complete the form.   If you click to amend your return after it has been processed by the IRS, you will be able to amend your return to include the Form 8938.

To contact TurboTax customer service/support use their contact website during business hours.  If the problem concerns any type of refund for fees, use the key words billing issues and do Not use the word Refund or you will get a phone number for tax refunds.

Support is open from 5am to 9pm Pacific time

My return was accepted. So I just started amending, but can not find out how to add 8938 Form.

I selected "Changing other info on my return" at top of amend page, and follow the instruction.
But, could not find out how to add 8938. Would you please help me how to do this ?

Thanks for the help.

Form 8938 after efile

I have the same problem. I managed to answer the questions for form 8938 by typing form 8938 in the search box, and then "Jump to" it.

But my form 8938 is still not attached to my 1040 report (and yes, I am above the $ threshold for filing 8938).

It seems that all the information I entered regarding my foreign bank account is not saved. I have to fill it everytime i search for 8938.

Exact same issue. Did the same, and same conclusion: the SW doesn't keep any information entered (I did it a a few times), and obviously the form 8938 has not been attached to my return when I filed.

Extremely frustrating, especially considering that I filed this form for the past few years with Turbotax and never had any issues.

Turbotax, please fix this and let us know the step-by-step to properly refile this form. Txs

For those who are interested. After a few discussions with Turbotax online service, there was no other choice but to use the desktop version of Turbotax, import everything from the online tool, then start an amendment and fill the form 8938 from there. I now have my forms 1040-X and 8938 finally done and ready to send to the IRS as an amendment.

Quick question: Same issue here, Software just changed my answer to financial accounts outside the US to "NO" after I had filled out all foreign account info. Found out after filing that 8938 was never attached. I saw that you went with desktop version. Does it mean you were not able to efile the amendment? Turbo has been very frustrating this year.

Thanks and look forward to your reply.

Never mind. Don't know how, but I managed to efile my amendment and confirmed that my 8938 was inserted.
