Hi All,
I feel like I’ve been trying to google the answer for this for half an hour.
Installed solar panels during 2022. Do I need to attach the actual Form 5695 (like going to the IRS website, downloading, and filling out) and attach it to my TurboTax tax submission? Or if I follow the instructions to add that info: search for 5695, residential energy credit -> Jump To -> At the bottom of the Energy-Saving Home improvements screen, Answer YES then CONTINUE, am I good?
I did exactly the above. Is this essentially TurboTax completing Form 5695 for me to submit when I ultimately finalize and submit my taxes? Or do I need to do the above AND still complete the form from the IRS website?
Trying to ensure I do everything correctly, so appreciate any guidance.
Thanks!

Form 5695 is like any federal form that is included on your return. You enter the information as directed by using the jump to link. Your responses to the question are transferred to the actual form that is e-filed with your tax return.
To claim the solar energy credit, please follow these steps:
Yes. As @leeloo states, your answers in the TurboTax interview for the energy credit topic are used to complete the form 5695 which then automatically becomes part of your tax return for submission.
I enter my QMID and total cost for a heat pump, but it’s not letting me get past the final review. Is the tax credit form updated?
What message do you get in review? In TurboTax Desktop, go to FORMS and 'Open Form' 5695 to view the calculations. Make sure your program is updated through the ONLINE link at the top.
If you received an email saying a form was released but you still do not see it in your TurboTax Desktop software, please be aware that while the form has been finalized, the software updates take a bit longer to be deployed. Full access will be available once the updates are fully integrated into all the software versions.
If you're using TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies and step through the Home Energy Interview again.
