Form 4562 this year but not last?

Why would I need to do this form this year and not last?

Form 4562 is used to report Depreciation and Amortization.

This form is used to:

  • Claim your deduction for depreciation and amortization,
  • Make the election under section 179 to expense certain property, and
  • Provide information on the business/investment use of automobiles and other listed property.

You can review more information below in the TurboTax FAQ but this form would commonly be used to report business assets you are depreciating such as equipment or automobile expenses, or rental property.  Are you claiming any of these type of expenses this year?  Especially automobile expenses for business or job related purposes

I had the same question.  Last year, I did not have to wait for this form; this year, apparently, I do.  I do have an automobile expense this year, but I did so last year as well.
