Form 1099 R Line B4 - how to enter data?

My 1099 R is for a 401K conversion to a ROTH IRA. The 1099 shows Box 1 and Box 5 with the same amount but the taxable amount for box 2A is $0.  I know this should be taxable? How to I enter the data so that TurboTax realizes it is taxable?

Since your Box 5 is the same amount as Box 1, this would indicate that after-tax funds were used for your Roth, so it would not be taxable in that case.

If you think your 1099-R is incorrect, you can reach out to the Payer  for clarification.

Form 1099 R Line B4 - how to enter data?

FYI, the Distribution Code is H. I've typed all the data in using step by step to no avail so I switched to Forms mode and think there are issues. Box B1 is checked (entire distribution rolled over) this is a conversion, not a rollover. Box 3 is checked (check if the designated Roth distribution was rolled over into a Roth IRA). This is a traditional 401K so not a Roth distribution.  Box B4 is the amount of this distribution that may be rolled or converted to a Roth IRA. This is blank and I cannot enter any numbers there. Box B5 (Check this box if the entire amount on line B4 above was converted to a Roth IRA. I can check this box but it doesn't do any good because Box B4 amount is blank.

Hope this clarifies my question.

Thank you. I reached out to them yesterday so hoping to hear soon. I saw some earlier posts that indicated there were questions that would address the issue but I must have misunderstood.

Take care,

You should have received a 1099-R with the same amount in box 1 as in box 2a and nothing in box 5.  The code in box 7 should be G.  Your 1099-R is all kinds of wrong.

You have two choices - enter it as it should be and then notify the issuer that they have made a mistake.  Or contact the issuer and wait for a corrected 1099-R with the correct information.
