Still trying to figure out why I am getting a software error on Mac Desktop when I enter my short term RSU transactions and experience more taxes owned depending upon the input.
I entered all short term transactions for which basis IS NOT REPORTED TO THE IRS. I use the supplemental information to input my cost basis and notice two things:
1. If I input the cost basis from the supplemental in lieu of putting cost at $0, then adjusting the cost basis by checking the "adjust" option, my taxes owed goes up. Did one transaction this way and taxes owed went up by $14K on that single transaction.
2. If I input the cost basis from the supplemental without checking the "adjust cost basis" and just input the basis costs, my taxes owed goes down (by $14K) but I get the following error on all entered transactions: "Form 1099-B Worksheet (Fidelity Investments)--Capital Asset Sales Wksht (1): Salecat: Form 8949 Check Box has an invalid selection for . "C" or "F" are the only valid selections for a worksheet with transactions not reported to the IRS".
I am using EasyGuide, so do not understand what "C" or "F" are for these transactions or how to correct. Also why would taxes go up if you check the "adjust basis" option...yes goes up significantly.
