used turbo tax to do 2017 fed tax returns. I entered 2017 quarterly estimated tax payments to the return. when I printed the return out there was no 1040es. doesn't a 1040es form need to be sent when filing the return if I paid quarterly tax payments? ive used turbo tax for years and a 1040es was always part of the finished tax return.

Form 1040ES is a voucher form that you use to pay next year's taxes. But, it doesn't actually get sent with your tax return when you file it. You simply record the estimated payments made on Line 65 of Form 1040. It won't print up as like a record for this year's taxes.
Now, if you are expecting to make 2018 Estimated Payments, then there should be four vouchers in your return for 2018 Form 1040ES (this is probably why you remember always seeing them with your return). If they didn't print this year, then you may not be required to make the ES payments. But, you should review the prepare estimated taxes section again because there is a question at the end that asks if you want to have the forms print with your return. You may have accidentally said No to that question, which caused them to be suppressed.
You can review that question though by following the steps below to access this portion of the program - (or use the search feature and search for "W4" and click the jump-to link)
Also, if you do need the 2018 ES vouchers and you know the amounts you want to pay, then you can just print a copy of them from the IRS website below. There are the same ones that TurboTax prints up.
