The newly introduced disk directory produced when I want to open a saved file is terrible. The file tree starts with My Documents. I do not have a folder on my pc with that name. I have Documents, but it doesn't appear in TT's list. Worse, the TurboTax folder listed is a sub folder of Takeout. I have no folder with that name, and when I click on TT there it opens nothing. There's got to be a better way to locate my tax file without having to use Windows Explorer to open it by clicking on the file itself.

Are you doing Save As? I've never seen "My Documents" it's just Documents. If you have My Documents or Takeout those would have been set up by a user. The first time you save you should do Save As and designate where you want it to go. Then you can do just a Save. On my Windows 11 laptop I have 2 drives C & D. I save my data on the D: drive. I go down to the bottom of the directory tree to This PC to >Data (D:) and don't mess with the pinned folders at the top. Do not save to OneDrive, that can give you trouble.
when genuine TurboTax disk is installed ihe default is to create its own folder under the C:\Users\Username\Documents folder. Also, the location it's saved is entered into the Windows registry so when you reopen the app, it should show you the tax return no matter where you saved it.unless you move it outside of TurboTax.
Don't know about a "Takeout folder" unless you saved it there yourself. Are you using a legitimate version of TurboTax desktop? Many websites sell illegal versions.
