Hello everyone!
I live in Italy, the 1°st of August 2022 I started the International Program in Disney World.
Due to some family program, instead of to stay one year, I came back to Italy after just one month.
I did all the procedure with Disney to obtain the Social Security number, but at the time of my departure I had not received it yet.
Some days ago I received the W-2, and inside the form the Ssn number is written with XXX.
I already contacted human resources of Disney, but they reply to me that they can't provide to me, I have to contact irs.gov.
But in irs.gov site there isn't an email contact.
So, please, can you help me how to obtain this number? Because without it, I can't complete my Turbotax.
Really thank you for helping me, and sorry if I did some English grammar mistakes.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Did you have Federal Tax withheld from your pay? This amount would be in Box 2 of your W-2.
If so, then you need to determine if you are filing as a Resident Alien or a Non-Resident of the US.
If you previously applied for a Social Security Number, but have not received it yet, you can contact the Social Security Administration Customer Service at 1 (800) 772-1213.
You also have the option to file with Form W-7 to obtain an ITIN number. You will need to mail your return in this case.
Hi, thank you for reply.
Yes, in the box number 2 "Federal Tax Withheld" I have 106 Dollars.
I suppose I was resident, I stayed inside the Disney house complex.
For me, contact the Social customer service by phone is very very difficult, because English is not my language, I am not fluent, very hard for me to understand by the phone (also here, to write, I am helping with translate).
For W-7 and fill, I don't know, I don't understand what is and what to do.
Remember, I am not English native, for me is difficult to understand what to do.
In box 2 I just have 106 dollars... I will be happy to receive this money, but if I need hours and hours to understand what to do, I will pass.
Thank you
Hi, etac88! The first thing to do is to discover if the Social Security Administration has already given you a Social Security number. You can do this yourself with a call to the Social Security Administration - please read this page in Italian.
The only necessary thing to calling is the capability to dial an 800 number in the U.S. (I think you are still in Italy). If this does not work for you, come back to this forum and we will try something else.
I have found a webpage with which you can "email" The Social Security Administration. Look here.
Explain your situation, and that you would like to know if your SS number was ever given to you, and if this number exists, how can you get it? Of course, the SS office is not going to send this number to you through email, but maybe they can send it to you through the mail, or give you some other way of getting it.
Really really thank you.
I have sent this message in the link you provided to me:
"Dear Social Security,
I live in Italy (I am italian citizen), the 1°st of August 2022 I started the International Program in Disney World (Orlando, Florida).
Due to some family problem, instead of to stay one year, I came back to Italy before the time.
I did all the procedure with Disney to obtain the Social Security Number, but at the time of my departure I had not received it yet.
Some days ago I received the W-2, and inside the form the Social Security Number is written with XXX.
I already contacted human resources of Disney, but they reply to me that they can't provide to me, I have to contact irs.gov.
But in irs.gov site there isn't an email contact, just a phone number, but for me is very difficult to speak at the phone in English.
So, please, can you help me how to obtain this number?
Because without it, I can't complete my Turbotax (online request for tax refund).
Really thank you for helping me, and sorry if I did some English grammar mistakes."
I wait the answer, I hope they can help me.
Good!
But in case you have any trouble with your message, remember what is important:
1. Did the Social Security Administration (SSA) ever issue you a Social security number and card?
2. If yes, how do you get a copy of the number and the card sent to you in Italy?
If they never issued you a Social Security number, then you can apply for an ITIN (Individual Taxpayer Identification Number), but that is an entirely different process, and you don't want to do that process if the SSA has issued you a Social Security number.
Another path you might try is to contact a Federal Benefits Unit in Rome or in Naples. This office handles affairs for the Social Security Administration in Italy. This is primarily for US citizens; however, it seems to me that the process of finding out if you have an SS number would be the same whether you were US citizen or not. Try it!
Bravo!
