Filing with a foreign address

Hi,

I'm only missing the final step before filing but I keep getting the message that I'm missing some 'My Info' like state and zip, however, I have filled out all the information required under My Info. The problem may be that I have a foreign address. I was an international student but I have now moved back home. This also means I no longer have a US phone number, but I can only get help from a Turbotax tax expert (which I have paid for) if I submit a US phone number! I just want my taxes to be filed, and I have paid extra to get my return reviewed and to get online help from your tax experts. Please let me know how I can complete my tax returns with the foreign address - and/or how to contact you without a US phone number! Thank you

There are some restrictions with using a foreign address, but it is possible to still e-file. See: Can I e-file with a foreign address?

  • In the My Info section, delete all the address information if it was entered without first selecting Foreign Address from the drop down so that you will not be required to enter a state and zip code. If there is any chance there may be some information left in the US address section, change back to the US Address to delete all traces of the address. Then, change back to Foreign Address.

To reach out without a U.S. phone number, try using these resources: TurboTax Twitter or TurboTax Facebook.

Filing with a foreign address

I paid extra for personal HELP, but, I see no way to get it.

Where can I post my questions?

Where are the tax professionals I paid for?

They said there is a problem with my wife.s name or social.

Both are correct... Now they suggest I file by mail? OK, I accepted that

But, I thought, (for the money I paid) THEY WOULD MAIL IT.

But, no, they said print it and mail it yourself.

I am in Asia, that is the only reason I used TurboTax.

I HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME AND THANKS IN ADVANCE.

TurboTax can not mail something you need to physically sign.  However, you say there is a problem with your wife's name and social security number.  The IRS matches the first four letters of the LAST NAME with the last four digits of the Social of what is on record with the Social Security office.  Is is possible your wife has a different last name (maiden name) on file with social security?

Filing with a foreign address

LOL, this is a problem. In China, it is the Last name first and First Name LAST.

But, I am 98.5% sure I write down her name the same every time and that it is the same as her SS Card.

I will verify tomorrow, but, if it is the same, what can I do? HOW can I even file an extension?

They have 19 tax returns ALL with her name & at least 15 years with her SS number as well.

WHY the problem now? We have never been audited as our income is low.

It did more than double this year, could that be part of the problem?

Any suggestions, any ideas much appreciated and thanks in advance.

It depends. is the return being rejected because of a name and SSN mismatch?  Look at the Social Security card or statement (source documents) and make sure it is recorded exactly as it is on the source document.
