Save the PDF file of your filed tax returns... Check the information on the State Electronic Filing Instruction sheet.  If you really arranged your state payment, the State Filing instructions sheet will show your Bank information  details as to which bank and account the debit is being done from. (IA example below)

IF no bank info, then you have to pay separately....many states don't allow a debit to be arranged at the time you e-file state, and you must do it separately

No state filing instruction sheet shows up when I open my return now. But this sheet did print off one of the previous times I printed my return during the filing process. But now- I cannot view it anywhere else. And the last time I printed it- it came with the instructions to mail a check. But that does not show up anywhere now either. Hence the confusion.

Same thing happened to me when filing Michigan State return. Filing instructions also tell me to mail in my return and payment even though I efiled and used direct debit. I checked the filing instructions from my last years taxes and it was correct. 2017 instructions are not correct. Not sure what to do but TurboTax is definitely wrong.

Try the following

.....in certain situations the PDF file downloaded form your Tax Home page will be the wrong one.  Especially if you e-filed your Federal tax return by itself first, and then later cam back to e-file the state return on a later date.

_________________________________________________

........Carefully get back into your 2017 tax file.

1)  You do that by clicking on "Add A State" just below the state showing in the left panel. on your tax home page

*****That doesn't do anything but get you into your 2017 file.  Do NOT change anything.

2)  then go to the left side and go into the "Tax Tools" menu to find the "Print Center"  print out or save your tax return PDF file that way to see what's in it.  (give it a unique name so that it doesn't overwrite any previous PDF files you may have.)

That will be the correct one that was actually filed, and may have different instructions on it.

Filing instruction tell me I am paying my state taxes with a check and must mail them with check but I efiled these and did direct debit. Do I still need to mail them?

I'm using the cd version of Turbotax. In the print center the pdf file is incorrect. Shows I need to mail payment and tax return in. I did receive an email from the state today that my return was received but now unsure if I need to send a check.  I found the form for auto debit that I did fill out, but the auto debit info was not in the instructions or on my state tax form MI-1040. MI-1040 shows what I owe a balance but no auto debit info listed like my past returns. FYI I've been using TurboTax for years and very familiar with the product.

Ill probably just have to wait and see if my checking account is auto debited.

ahhhhhhh, the person who posted this was using the Online software...so that's how I answered....

1)  Make sure you check your e-file status from within that e-filed tax return for the desktop software, so that the "Accepted" gets logged into that tax file itself

2) Then Check your MI "Information Worksheet" in Forms Mode down in the state section...somewhere around Part V of that form should show your MI Direct Debit information for MI, and what date you selected for debit. Double check all your "X" boxes too  (sometimes it's in a different "Part" # for different states, and I don't have MI).  Even with the date entered there, some states take a few extra days to actually debit.

I did another tax return for a family member and her state refund and direct deposit is showing correctly. Must just be a glitch in state auto debit only.

Yup did all that. The MI Direct Debit form is correct but that information was never put on the tax form. I'm not having it debited till April 1 so Ill have to wait and see if the State of MI looks at that form even though its not on my tax return as being auto debited.  Hope someone can fix the problem at TurboTax cause I'm sure everyone else filing a MI return with auto debit is having the same problem. Thanks for your time checking into this matter.

...rats, i was hoping that the MI Instruction sheet just didn't update until the "acceptance " was logged.

People who put in the 17th of April as the debit date have a bigger conundrum....never put within 1 week of the
 payment deadline

I thought of that when I chose the date. Wanted time to make sure everything was debited correctly.

Hope the problem is only with one state. That's bad enough.

They did do direct debit and take the money from my account so I think I am good.
