Filing by the State

Worked 2014 in GA half year, moved to CA. Filled tax for both States back  in 2015. All year 2016 worked in CA. Received from my old GA employer W-2 for 2016 for $263.80 they discovered they did not show back in 2014. Do I have to file also GA return?

Filing by the State

If you are a legal resident of another state, you are not required to file a Georgia income tax return if:

  • Your only activity for financial gain or profit in Georgia consists of performing services in Georgia for an employer as an employee
  • The compensation for services performed does not exceed the lesser of five percent of the wages in all places or $5,000.00

However, if taxes were withheld and you want them refunded, you would have to file a nonresident return.
