What does it mean when my federal return says it’s being proceeded? At that point can they reject it?

Once the tax return has been initially e-filed it can either be Accepted or Rejected. If rejected the user can correct the error and e-file again. Once Accepted the tax return is processed by the IRS. If the IRS finds a problem with the tax return during Processing they send a letter or notice in the mail to the taxpayer describing the problem and what they need the taxpayer to do.
After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.

If the tax return has been Accepted it cannot be Rejected after being Accepted.
But if it’s being processed still can it be rejected?

No. Rejected means that the tax return is sent back to the taxpayer without the IRS even accessing the return. It means something on the tax return from the initial transmission was in error and the IRS would not accept the return because of the error.
okay so if it’s still in processing mode that means I just have to wait until they give me a refund date?
