So I filed my personal income tax returns for both the federal and the state yesterday. This morning I see an email from turbo tax that both returns were rejected. The state was rejected because the federal was rejected. The reason for the federal said because either the AGI was incorrect or my efile pin was incorrect. I double checked both and they are both correct. The only thing I can think is that I had to paper file my 2018 return at the end of December 2019. Is it possible that the IRS hasn't accepted that return yet and therefore, my AGI from 2018 isn't in the system? Obviously, I can wait now that the tax filing deadline has been extended to July and I owe tax so I'm not getting a refund. But just don't know why it is being rejected.

If you filed 2018 late then your AGI is not in the system. Try using zero. If zero does not work then you have to print, sign and mail your 2019 returns.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Thanks. That makes sense. I think what I will do is try zero. If that doesn't work, then I will wait a couple of months and see if I an efile with the 2018 AGI. I'm assuming that the IRS has to update it at some point. Since we have until July 15 to both file and pay, I'll take advantage of the extra time without penalties or interest.
