I paid for a State & Fed file and paid additional to file my state after the $56 purchase.
What gives? Pay Extra for FED+State and still have to pay more when filing.
I started TurboTax Deluxe Federal + State (Sam's Club for $55.99) on an office PC and could not update the state feature on that PC.
So, I went and bought laptop since the TurboTax license covers 5 devices. The Fed only version at Sam's was cheaper ($47.99), but I still paid the extra to file my state return along with my Federal.
After getting TurboTax up on the new PC, TurboTax still wanted me to pay an additional $15 to file the state after I logged in. Why did I pay twice for this?
I could have bought the Federal only & bought the State for $15 on the TurboTax site when filing. What will TurboTax do about this? I would like a credit back to pay for the additional purchase of the State filing please. TurboTax, help. I'm a lifelong customer.

E-filing fee in desktop software
Did you purchase desktop software with state software included? They sell Deluxe both with and without state software--so you have to be careful which one you choose. And even if it does have the state software download included, that is for preparing the state. There is an extra $25 fee to e-file the state. You can avoid the state e-file fee if you print and mail the state instead of e-filing it.
I couldn’t follow what all you did. Did you buy the program twice from Sam’s?
In the Desktop program you get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $25 to efile. Or you can print and mail state for free. And since you bought it from Sam’s you got a $10 rebate which was automatically applied to the $25 state efile fee so you only had to pay $15.
If you had bought the federal only Deluxe you would have needed to buy the state Program for $45. Then still pay the $25 or $15 state efile fee.
And if you have been using Turbo Tax for a long time you should have known all this. The Desktop pricing structure has been the same for years but the prices have gone up. There has always been a separate state efile fee. Except in NewYork it is free to efile state.
