Estimated taxes for 2017

I have been unable to re-open my 2016 return so as to create an estimated tax payment documentation.  I retired this year and am now getting clear on IRA distributions, etc. needed to fund our life.  We realized we will have about $6K of federal taxes due which have not had normal withholding.

Estimated taxes for 2017

When you sign onto to your online account using the exact same user ID you used to create, complete and file the 2016 tax return you will land on the Welcome Home screen.   Click on My TurboTax at the top of the screen.  When you are on your 2016 tax timeline, under the section for SOME THINGS YOU CAN DO, click on Add a state (you will not be actually adding a state).  This will get you into your 2016 online tax return that you filed.

For the 2017 Estimated Tax Forms 1040-ES -

  1. Search for 1040-es (exact phrase) in your program's search box, located in the upper right corner.
  2. Click the Jump to 1040-es link in the search results.
  3. Answer No to the W-4 withholding question to start the estimated payment calculations interview.
    • You'll be asked a series of questions about your 2017 income. Answer them as best you can.
  4. When you get to the Print Vouchers? screen, answer Yes. They'll print with your federal return.
  • If you get the No Payments screen instead, you don't need to make 2017 estimated payments based on what you entered.
