Entering Mortgage Interest for Rental Propert

I own a rental property that has a mortgage. Should I enter mortgage interest and property taxes as business expenses or somewhere else? Thanks!

The mortgage interest and property taxes paid on the rental property are entered on Schedule E.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for entering rental property income and expenses - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/enter-income-ex...

Yes, assuming that you rented the property for the entire year, and do not use it personally, you will enter your mortgage interest and property taxes (as well as other expenses such as: repairs, maintenance, advertising, etc.) as a business expense on Schedule E

Enter Rental Income and Expenses here.

  1. Open your return (if not already open).
  2. Enter "rentals"  in the Search box.
  3. Click on "Jump to rentals" link.
  4. Enter "Yes" to the question, "Did you have any rental or royalty income and expenses in 2024 for property you own?".
  5. Enter your rental information, and Continue.
