Energy-Efficient Vehicle Charging Station Installed but don't own EV Yet

Hi, I had an NEMA 14-50 plug installed in 2021 in my garage to charge an electric vehicle. Issue is I'm still waiting for my EV which is scheduled for delivery in 2022. I'm noticing the credit eligibility states " - You started using the station in 2021." The outlet is live in the garage I just don't have an EV to plug in yet (which leads me to think I have to wait until 2022).

Do I apply for the credit for 2021, wait until I own an EV in 2022, or am I out of luck because it was installed in 2021 but I didn't have an EV until 2022? Thanks!

Technically you did start using it since it is functional ... the sad fact you  currently have nothing to plug it into is unfortunate ... take the credit in 2021.
