efile rejection

I have entered my efile twice.  Twice it has come back asking for my deceased wife's AGI.  In 2018 we filed jointly.  I put the amount from Line 7 of my 2018 return. It continues to be rejected.  What should I do?

TurboTax merely prepares the return in the format requested by the IRS. Often, the IRS will not allow a return to be e-filed even when the correct AGI is entered based on instructions from the IRS. 

 

I understand your frustration when you are not able to e-file your tax return, but TurboTax cannot resolve the issue when it is the fault of the IRS. We cannot compel the IRS to accept a return, we can only deliver it to them in the format that they prescribe.

In many cases the IRS will reject a 2019 E-filed tax return if one of the taxpayers on the tax return is deceased.

Your only option is to print and mail the tax return.

sorry about your loss.       if she died in 2018 and you do not have a dependent child or stepchild that lived with you for the entire year in 2019 your filing status for 2019 is single and not widower or head of household.   as single your spouse's 2018 AGI should not be required.  if it still rejects try 0.   if that doesn't work, you'll have to paper file.

I concur.  My wife passed away and the IRS rejected my return. TT also asked for her AGI... I also eFiled it with 0 for the AGI... neither worked.  I am printing it out to mail it in.  

 

Seems as if this is a know issue that TT should know about

This appears to be a problem that still is not fixed.  My 2019 return is being repeatedly rejected due to "incorrect" AGI for my wife in 2018.  It is absolutely correct, checked everyway possible.  She passed away in 2019.  Filed joint in 2018 and 2019.

This is an absurd error because on a joint return, her's is no different than mine, which was not a reason for rejection.

Fortunately I can print and file and I will do that.  But that is one reason I bought the TT version that I did.  So I'm not getting what I paid for.

A call to the IRS said to enter a zero in the former AGI section and refile.  I have done that and will see if it works.  Does the second efile on the same return that was rejected count as 2 used of the 5 that I am allowed to use?

@marnie1930 If you are using the desktop version of Turbo Tax and one of your e-filed returns get rejected, it still only counts as one when you resubmit it.
