Does the software properly exclude military income for Louisiana, it appears not to be?

I'm filing in Louisiana my military retirement pay appears to being taxed by the state, as when on the state taxes I say enter code 4e its says its already deducted but looking at the worksheet it is not and I am being taxed on it.  Is there an issue with the software?

So far as I have seen, code 04E works on the Louisiana return to remove the military pension (actually, any government pension, as I recall).

It sounds like you did the data entry correctly. If you can't change the input to get the correct output, then delete the Louisiana return to delete any extraneous data, and re-enter.

I know it's a hassle, but sometimes that's faster than looking for other solutions.

Just to remind you (although as I noted, you probably don't need it), do the following to exclude military pensions in Louisiana:

  • As you go through the Louisiana interview in TurboTax, you should come to a screen entitled "Any Other Income Exclusions?"
  • On this screen (see screen shot below), click on 04E as the type of income.
  • Enter the amount of your military pension here.
  • As you can see, you can enter 07E for Social Security.
