Yes, 2 dependents becoming independent could certainly have made the difference, particularly if you were previously eligible for child tax credits. Your withholding should have covered the moving up of a tax bracket, but I do suggest making sure you have an updated Form W-4 on file with your employer.

Thanks! I didn't think it would be such a huge difference. I've used TurboTax since before we were married and never had an issue. We've also withheld as much as we could, so I thought that we were covered. Now to figure out how to move forward (& pay the taxes!!!).
