If you have a .tax or .tax20xx file you need that year's Desktop program installed to open it.
Turbo Tax doesn't have programs older than 3 years. You might be able to find one on Ebay or Amazon or somewhere but you wouldn't be able to update it or download the state program.
You could try the TaxPrinter service (not connected with Turbo Tax) to convert a .tax file to pdf at
OR get a copy from the IRS -
while you may be able to but the desktop apps for 2003 & 2004 on the web, they are likely the beta versions. the original program for that year issued by TT and would likely not reflect any law changes for those years. if you open the .tax file with these apps you could end up with a return that does not match what was filed.
it really depends on what you are looking for. because of structural changes TT needs to make to the app you may not be able to install them, "Taxprinter" is often a service that is mentioned that can provide you with a .pdf copy of the return as per the .tax file.
There are several online companies that claim to keep old copies of tax software running on old computers, and can convert your return to a PDF for a fee. We can't really vouch for any specific company, you will have to check their prices and make sure you are comfortable with their security procedures.
