Do I need to keep old Software CDs of Turbotax

I have used TurboTax for many years and kept all the old software CDs.  I recently upgraded my PC and it uses Windows 10.  I do not believe any of the old software CDs are compatible with Windows 10.  Do I need to keep them?  Is there a way for me to open old TurboTax files on new versions of the software that are compatible with Windows 10?

Yes.  I backed up all the data files and PDFs.  We have old software back through 2002 and kept it for the very reason you stated.  However, I wasn't sure if it would work on the upgraded version of Windows.  Good to know that at least the last 5 years seems to work on Windows 10.  Thanks for the response.

Software is only supported for 4 years so even if you wanted to install one of those old programs you would not be able to updated it or get the state program.

Saving each year as both a PDF (with worksheets) and the .taxfile is a good idea.  And at the end of the filing season you can also save the up to date program file on your own CD or thumb drive and it will be more functional than what is on the TT CD (which is just a bare bones beta version and totally useless without all the updates).

From personal experience - I have TurboTax programs on my Win 10 laptop that was upgraded from a Win 7.  The TurboTax programs for tax years 2010 thru 2015 all work using Win 10.
If it was me, I would keep all the prior tax year CD's just in case there was ever a need to open the tax returns for those years.  Also, if you ever have to amend a tax return, you must use the TurboTax program for the tax year to amend the return.  I assume that you have backed-up all of the tax data files and PDF's you saved of all the prior year returns.
