Do I need to create a new account minus my spouse if I got divorced last year?

My login is with my email and password, but yet the TurboTax system for some reason always refers to my husbands name. I’m the one who has done and prepared the taxes all of these years and do not want to have to re-create a new account this year. How can I get TT to acknowledge it’s me and no my former spouse?

If you are divorced as of the end of 2024, you should start a new online account in order to use your new filing status of Single (or maybe Head of Household if you have the children).   Do not try to use an old account that was used for joint returns--it is too hard and too messy to get out all of the "spouse stuff."    Sorry---it is inconvenient, but getting divorced was probably very inconvenient too, so this is just one more part of that.

You will have to create a new online account with a new User ID since you are no longer legally married and you have use the TurboTax online editions for prior tax returns as Married Filing Jointly,  TurboTax cannot change anything associated with your online account.

While you are at it, download all PDF files for prior years from your prior account now...and back them up on a USB flash drive.  You may have some reason to refer to them in the future, and it can be a zoo trying to get them from an old abandoned account.  What is stored online may only go back~7 years.
