My federal return is $100 less in the desktop version than the online version...
I started my return in the online version. When I found out that upgrading to deluxe online costs more than downloading the desktop version from Amazon, I ended up purchasing the desktop version instead.
Everything is identical. I reviewed both multiple times and all of the information entered is exactly the same. The state return amount also matches exactly. But in the desktop version, my return is $100 less.

Compare the online and desktop 1040 forms line by line. Where are the differences? Please give specific line numbers and exact amounts.
Did you download the .tax2021 file from Online to finish in the Desktop program? If you didn't you can do that without messing up your first desktop return. That might help pin down the difference.
See how to switch to the Desktop program,

I would say a common difference would be in qualified dividends. Compare line 3a. You might need to see all the Online worksheets. But you can only get those by paying for Online version or as I said you can download the .tax2021 online file for free and Open it in the Desktop program.
You know the Desktop program has a lot of features and advantages over the Online version. Like you can switch to Forms Mode and see all the forms. You can do unlimited returns and efile 5. And you can use a lower version. All the Desktop programs have the same forms, you just get more help in the higher versions.
