When doing a final review of my federal taxes, I get an error message regarding the federal information work sheet that states: "Direct Debit check box should not be checked. Only electronically filed returns are eligible for direct debit."
I will owe money for the federal return and want to have the amount taken out of my checking account. I entered by bank information and checked the direct debit box. Why am I getting this message?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
If you are mailing your tax return, you will receive this message, as Direct Debit is only available for returns that are being e-filed:
What is direct debit and how does it work
As stated, I am filing electronically and therefore marked the appropriate "direct debit" box to have the amount I owe to IRS taken directly from my checking account.
I saved my return and exited Turbo Tax. When I returned the problem had fixed itself.
