Did I pay too much for TT this year?

I bought the 2018 CD version of TT Home and Business.  I prepared and e-filed my federal return and two state tax returns.  Besides the cost of the CD ($64.99) I paid $52.54 and $47.30 twice in the electronic filing process for a total of $212.13.

Was I overcharged? Wasn’t there supposed to be one free state tax return?

When you use desktop software you get five free federal e-files and the software program to prepare returns for one specific state of your choosing.  if you need a second different state program it is $44.99 per state program.  Each state return that you e-file incurs an e-file fee--which can be avoided if you print and mail the state instead.  But if you e-filed them, each time you e-filed a state return by February 28 it was $19.99.  Effective March 1 it was $24.99 per state e-file.

OK... I see.  My $52.54 charge was for filing the 2 state returns (plus sales tax). But it appears I was charged twice for the program for the second state, because the first state program was free.  

Easy peasy, I'll protest through the credit card company and get $47.30 back. Thank you.

Did you efile the state returns?  There is a 19.99/24.99 fee to efile each state return including the first one.  So one of those charges is for the efile fees plus maybe some sales tax.  When did you efile the states?

Yes, I did, a week ago.  That's what the $52.54 charge was for--2 state filings plus sales tax.

The two 47.30 charges were for the second state return program. I should only have been charged for one.

Oh I missed you said the 47.30 twice.
