Desktop TurboTax Business will not open after updating

I went to open TTBusiness 2021 to review last years return prior to starting 2022.  The program asked if I wanted to update and I said yes.  After the update, the program closed and will not reopen.  I receive an error window (no error number) that says "looks like we've run into an error and need to close.  After closing, it starts to re-open but comes back to the same error message.

I was on the phone with technical support, but they were not coming up with a solution, but me on hold, and call disconnected.

TurboTax Business has been known not to restart after an update, despite the fact that the program indicates it will restart.

if it will not open after clicking the .exe file (or shortcut), you can try restarting your computer and, if necessary, do a repair install.

You should also check for a Windows update, and reboot your computer before you try again.  A partially-installed Windows update has been known to block the startup of TTX software.

Desktop TurboTax Business will not open after updating

I spent two hours with tech support on the phone the first day, and three hours the following day.  They can't figure it out.  Said they tried all of the fixes they had and it still won't open after uninstalling, reinstalling, fixing, manual updates, and on and on.

I wanted to be able to open the 2021 returns on my computer to review while working on 2022.  Thankfully, I have full copies of the returns saved as pdf's, so I am using that.

Very frustrating that they can't figure it out.

Turbo Tax wants to blame it on the computer, but the computer opened the program perfectly fine before the update, and opens the TT Deluxe that is also installed.  Additionally, I downloaded the 2022 Deluxe and 2022 Business this morning and the desktop runs them perfectly as well.  It is not likely that it is the computer, given that the other versions open and work fine, and the 2021 ran fine prior to the update.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

Thanks for the above suggestions, which unfortunately have been tried several time to no avail.

You will not like it, and I hesitate to bring it up, but there have been issues in the past where the registry needs to be cleaned properly after an uninstall (this happened with one of the beta versions we tested).

The suggestion was to try Revo Uninstaller, which actually worked (the free version).

Hmmm...since it's a 2021 program, I was wondering if running in Compatibility Mode for Windows 8 might work..

We did try that.  Got the same result - didn't work.  Thanks for the thought, though.

I don't like messing with the registry as I am not a computer expert, by any means.  I'll look into that and give it some thought.  Thanks.
