I've seen several posts about deleting a return and starting over for the on-line version of turbotax. I have the desktop edition and I don't see the options/tools mentioned in earlier posts. How does one start over with desktop version?

Do not save the tax return you are working on when you click on the File menu at the top left of the desktop program screen and click on New Tax Return.
Thanks - much appreciated.
I've been working on this return (and saving changes) for over a week. Does your advice still hold true?

Since you have saved this tax return in the past it will still be on the TurboTax folder even if you start a new tax return.
You will need to delete the tax data file for this tax return. To do so you will need to go to your Documents directory and open the TurboTax folder within the directory. There will be a file in the directory with the file name and extension similar to this - 2024 Doe J Form 1040 Individual Tax Return.tax2024
Except it will have your name and initial. Delete that file.
To start over in the Desktop program you just start a new return. Go up to File-New tax return. You can either delete the first return using your computer or leave it incase you need to refer to it or look up something. You might want to rename the wrong one to tell it apart from the new return. The users posting replies here that use the Desktop program like me usually have several test returns saved so we can try out different situations to answer questions.
