That depends on whether the dependent is a qualifying child or a qualifying relative. If the dependent is a qualifying child there is not an income threshhold. For a qualifying relative the amount for 2021 is $4300--not counting Social Security.

You can claim a child, relative, friend, or fiancé (etc.) as a dependent on your 2021 taxes as long as they meet the following requirements:

There is only an income limit for Qualifying relative the dependent can't make more than $4,300 in 2021.
