I tried to file and I'm met with an invalid CUSIP on my form. It's for a whopping $2 in interest on a money market with my financial advisor. It's the same number as last year but I didn't have any issues then. Perhaps a form change from 2020?
It's 7 digits instead of the required 9 alphanumeric. Do I just leave it blank? I cannot move on without altering this but I'm at a loss and haven't seen this asked anywhere.

You shouldn't need to enter that. What box is it in? Box 14? Just leave it blank. You don't need the EIN either. All you need is the company name and amount.
Don't enter the bank name and don't try to import it. It is just as fast and easy to manually enter it. At the bottom pick Change How I enter my Form
Then on the next screen pick I'll Type it in Myself
Yes, box 14. I will do that. Thanks
I can't e-file or print to manually file. TurboTax online sends me in a loop where it wants cusip number for 1099-Int. As soon as i click email, it wants to fix federal returns.
Had to remove the 0 from the from several times then it worked.
Nice find. A year later for 2022 returns the TurboTax form page does the same. I spent almost an hour to figure out my CUSIP number and my Janney 1009-INT showed about 10 different CUSIP numbers. The TURBO tax form reads that with various CUSIP numbers, leave blank. So why does the form default with a value of "0". By accident I backspace and it went away and I was able to e-file. Very poor execution especially when the exit reads file by MAIL if there is no entry to clear the "0". Every year I find errors or miss information with TURBOTAX and there is no way to inform Intuit. I'm not sure if they bother to read these community pages.
So here we are, in 2025 filing 2024 taxes. One of my accounts has a 7 digit CUSIP number on the 1099_INT and it was imported directly from my bank.
I am stuck in an endless loop and cannot efile because it is not 9 digits.
Is it valid to delete and leave blank? or will this trigger a problem?
Thanks!
You can delete the CUSIP number; leave that field blank, @BFMa . It won't be a problem as the IRS does not require that information.
I had a similar problem. My e-filing was prevented by an "invalid" CUSIP" for a money market account on a 1099-INT imported from my investment firm. I've received interest from the account for several years and never encountered this problem. Based on this post, and others, deleting the CUSIP number allowed the e-file to complete. However, I did some additional research. I had saved my tax preview to a PDF the day before e-filing, and box 14 on the 1099-INT form in the PDF was empty, which seems to indicate it was being populated during the e-file process. If true, it seems like a significant bug, because the e-file process should not be detecting (or creating) errors, especially errors in the tax forms, after the final review has been performed.
Sorry. Have to amend that. Double checked and the CUSIP number was present on this year's taxes, but not on last year's. It is a change in behavior with this year's Turbo Tax. However, it still seems wrong for the e-filing process to be detecting errors that were not presented during the final review.
