I couldn't process the fees associate with e-file for my mother's tax return. Couldn't get customer service to fix the problem so I had to use the third party processing and pay the additional $40 fee to receive a direct deposit of her federal return due to processing problems on TurboTax side. I understand paying the state e-file fee but it seems like an unfair money grab that the only "solution" to the credit card payment issue is that the taxpayer has to foot the additional $40 fee to complete the e-file process. Had the same issues with filing my return and several family members.

If you were using the TurboTax 2022 desktop CD/Download editions there is no fee for e-filing the federal tax return so you would have received the federal tax refund by direct deposit without using a credit card or the refund processing fee.
There is a $25 e-file fee for the state tax return when using the TurboTax desktop editions. But you could have printed and mailed the state return thus avoiding the credit card situation and the $40 refund processing fee.
I am having this same issue with 2023 returns. It will not accept any credit card payment for the state filing fee. I will have to print and mail the state return which will take much longer to receive the refund. It is unfair that the turbo tax help desk can't resolve this problem.
