Child turned 18

My son turned 18 in April of 2024 and graduated high school in May. He began working full time (apprenticeship) in June and will be filing his own taxes. He has lived with me the entire year. Do I just delete him as a dependent or is he still one since he lives with me and only worked half the year?

You can still claim him since he’s under 19.  Be sure to tell him on his return to check the box that says he can be claimed on someone else’s return.   That is very important.   Next year you will delete him from your return unless he is a full time student in 2025.

Since he is considered a full time student for the year you can still claim him if he didn’t provide more than half of his support for the year which is likely since he lived with you. Be sure that he checks the box on his own return that he can be claimed as a dependent.
