Child as a dependent, but TT lists as "nondependent"!

Hello,

My daughter is 22,  a full-time college student, not married, "lives at home " and I support her 100% finacially.

In the TurboTax Deluxe version, "Personal Info"/ "your children and others you support" screens, TT keeps listing her as a "nondependent".    I have stepped-through all the screens,  but this is not changing.

Also,  for the same child,  in the Forms, under "Deductions"/" Dependent and Nondependent Worksheet has a box  (D) checked indicating that my daughter is married.   Within Part 1, it is the only  "check"/"X" that is black, and not blue,  so it is not allowing me to change the answer on the worksheet,  although all the other check-boxes in Part 1can be edited.

I went back through the TT step-by-step,  and do not find anywhere where I listed her as "married".

Thanks,

x

We have seen some users who miss an important screen while entering dependent information.   As you go through the screens in MY INFO for your daughter, watch for the one titled "Less Common Situations" and make sure you check that she is a student.

Sometimes it helps to delete the dependent and then re-enter them in MY INFO.

You can delete her and then re-add her.  It sounds like the box for "She is a full-time student" was not checked.  Possible, the checkmark was put in the wrong box and she was marked as married instead of a student.

As you walk through pay close attention for the question asking if she was a full-time student.  Then also be sure that you say NO she did NOT pay more than half of her own support.
