Can't find my 2018 Tax Return

Hi,

I filed my tax return last year (2018) with the Turbo Tax CD. I can find my 2017 tax return which I filed online, but i'm unable to find the 2018 tax return.

I used the link to see if I had another user name, but that was not the case. https://myturbotax.intuit.com/account-recovery/ 

Can you help me retrieve my 2018 Tax Return please. I for certain used the TurboTax Deluxe CD that I bought from Costco. I had filled everything online, but had then bought the CD and had to refill everything again there. I'm not sure if this cause the synch to fail between the online account and the CD. I also changed my laptop, so I can't find the file here.

If you used the Desktop program then it is only saved on that  computer.  You need to find the pdf file or file ending in .tax2018 on your computer.  Did you use Windows or Mac?

Do you still have the 2018 program installed?  Open it and go up to File-Open and see if your 2018 return is listed.  

The data file ends in .tax2018 and should be in Documents in a Turbo Tax subfolder.  Search your computer for all files ending in .tax.  And check the Recycle Bin.  The PDF file should be saved there too.  If you don't have the actual .tax2018 file you might the the temporary file you can use.  It also ends in .tax2018 but starts with a Tilde ~ sign.

You didn't happen to save it to Windows OneDrive, did you?

Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax2018 data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one.

oh, just saw you have a different computer?  Did you make any backups?

The Online version and Desktop CD/Download program are totally separate and don't sync.  By the way, last year you could have moved your online return to the Desktop program so you didn't need to start over.  

You need the file ending in .tax2018 on your computer to transfer into 2019, either into the online version or the Desktop program.

If you can't find your 2018 return you will have to get a copy from the IRS.  See this IRS website for transcripts - http://www.irs.gov/Individuals/Get-Transcript
