Trying to file my 21 year old daughter's taxes and it won't let me. At the last step, it keeps looping with this warning:
Form 8615 filing status should be blank
Can't tell what needs to be fixed. The child is not claimed as a dependent on the parent's taxes and covers her expenses. What needs to be fixed? Her tax form doesn't even mention her parents.

Can you delete the form? Select Forms mode, then scroll the list on the left for Form 8615. Check first to see if the form is blank. Then delete the form (bottom of page).
If you are using TurboTax online, type 'Form 8615' in the search box, then select the 'jump to' link to complete the form. See link below for reference.
What is IRS Form 8615: Tax for Certain Children Who Have Unearned Income
I'm using the PC version. Why do I need to fill out Form 8615 in the child's return?
From the Wages and Income section. Under Child's Income (Under Age 24), click Update. It asks if the child has children, the answer is No, and it ends.
When I search for Form 8615 and click on Jump to 8615. I get the same result. Answer No, and it's over.
Then in the final check, it says Form 8615 filing status should be blank, and displays the form in a box. What in that form is it referencing? The first two check boxes should not be checked. Is that it? The error keeps coming up and the return can't be filed.
Can you delete the form? Select Forms mode, then scroll the list on the left for Form 8615. Check first to see if the form is blank. Then delete the form (bottom of page).
Thank you very much for the suggestion. That did the trick. Too bad the error message didn't make that clear.
