The "Live" experts do not help with past year returns. If your 2023 return was rejected and you did not fix it and re-file it in 2024, then the only way to file it now is by mail. E-filing is permanently closed for past year returns.
Most rejections are for AGI, which is irrelevant for a rejected past year return since you only needed AGI to e-file. If it was rejected for some other reason like duplicate use of a Social Security number, the IRS will sort out the duplicate use of the SSN on a mailed return.
You can only print, sign and date your 2023 return in ink, and file it by mail now.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
