Can I get a health care tax credit for paying cobra insurance

No, you cannot get a health care credit  (called Premium Tax Credit) for COBRA insurance.   You are only eligible for the Premium Tax Credit if you purchased health insurance through the Marketplace.

However, you can deduct COBRA payments you paid as your medical expenses.

Hi Margaret. I'm eligible for tax credits per my family size and income, but when I apply on Healthcare.gov, it says that because I have an offer of COBRA, we're ineligible for all credits. This, even though w/o the credits, COBRA and the marketplace plans are unaffordable.
