Can I claim my spouse as a dependent even if we file taxes joint

No.  You just file a Joint return even if they don't have any income.  Joint is basically like claiming the spouse as a dependent but better.  You get a higher Standard Deduction.

you never claim a spouse as a dependent regardless of joint or MFS filing.

No.  You just file a Joint return even if they don't have any income.  Joint is basically like claiming the spouse as a dependent but better.  You get a higher Standard Deduction.
