@Hapygirl_23 You will have to contact each agency to see how it operates in your state. Being claimed on a tax return can have affects, each case and state is different.

Hello! I am dealing with the same situation as you. Did you end up claiming her children & did it effect her from receiving food stamps?
@jmerri0527 You are posting to a thread that is almost two years old. You are unlikely to get a reply from the user who posted here in 2021. If you are trying to claim dependents who receive public assistance, we cannot tell you if their food stamps, etc. will be affected. That is a question that must be asked of the agency that is providing the benefits. We answer tax questions here, and questions about the tax software.
What we can tell you in regard to your income tax return is this.....
If you have a GF and her children who live with you, you can only claim them if they lived with you the WHOLE year. And since none of them are related to you, you do not get to file as Head of Household or receive any of the child-related credits like child tax credit or earned income credit for claiming them. You can only get the NON-refundable $500 credit for other dependents for claiming them. That credit can reduce the tax you owe, but it is not added to your refund.
CREDIT FOR OTHER DEPENDENTS
