I have washed sales from stocks to report. I am using tradeLog software to generate the 8949 form. According to instructions on their website,
https://support.tradelogsoftware.com/hc/en-us/articles/[phone number removed]
They suggest to generate form 8453 and mail a copy of the 8949 form along with statement explaining differences and adjustments from 8949 and 1099-B forms.
Instead is their a way to attach the PDF copies of these when we e-file? is this acceptable or we have to print and mail the copies along with 8453 form?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
some users report TurboTax may prompt you to attach a PDF file of details.
That should happen if you use the summary method and enter the total amount of wash sale loss disallowed.
In any case, the summary method is recommended.
Does tradelogsoftware know that only Box A transactions with adjustments have to be detailed? Surely they do.

ask them why the won't give you two selectable reports to use:
transactions with adjustments and,
transactions without adjustments.
"along with statement explaining differences and adjustments from 8949 and 1099-B forms. "
This is not necessary.
why bother with tradelog software if you have to explain to the IRS what their service did for you?
According to instructions for form 8949 for washed sales, we have to.
Report the sale or exchange on Form 8949 and enter the amount of the nondeductible loss as a positive number in column (g). See the Schedule D instructions for more information about wash sales generally and Pub. 550 for more information on wash sales involving substantially similar stock or securities. If you received a Form 1099-B (or substitute statement) and the amount of nondeductible wash sale loss shown in box 1g is incorrect, enter the correct amount of the nondeductible loss as a positive number in column (g). If the amount of the nondeductible loss is less than the amount shown on Form 1099-B (or substitute statement), attach a statement explaining the difference. If no part of the loss is a nondeductible loss from a wash sale transaction, enter -0- in column (g). |
i don't think any version of Turbo Tax allows for an attachment of a PDF if you e-flre - only if you mail in the return. the reason is that that pdf has to be converted to a binary format to be transmitted. since every broker is a little different there's no way TT can do this. so your options are to mail your return with form 1099-B attached or use form 8453 and attach the 1099-B. make sure totals for various lines on form 8949/ schedule D agree with sections on the 1099-B. also, read the filing requirements for the 8453
Thanks Mike for your reply. Turbotax generated 2 pages at the end of e-file, one with summary (which shows how to mail and form 8453 (with form 8949 box checked). I need to send only the form 8453 with supporting 8949 form right and no need to send the summary page?
No, you need an additional attachment. The Form 8949 was e-filed with your return and should also be included with the mailing. Also include the statement detailing the transactions from your financial agent with the Form 8453 and any other details that would confirm the totals you entered on the Form 8949. You can include a copy of your Form 1099-B as well (if it is a separate document than your statement details).
This should be mailed within three days of your tax return being accepted by the IRS.
