For individuals making donations to a school that is part of the Alabama Accountability Act (AAA), the AAA provides a tax CREDIT on the State income tax and a DEDUCTION on the Federal income tax. This is separate from the treatment for parents paying tuition to these schools. It is just a donation. Turbo Tax is not accounting for this correctly and is treating both Federal and State as DEDUCTIONS.
Please see info here: https://www.restorationacademy.org/aaa
The Accountability Act also provides a tax credit for individuals or corporations who contribute to a scholarship-granting organization that provides educational scholarships to students assigned to
failing schools.

Thanks, but I'd really like to have them look into it and get back to me. I don't want to sit on the phone waiting to talk to someone and then repeating what I've written here.
Any employees on this forum that can get this to the right place to be reviewed?
Happy New Year!

It can be escalated, yes.
Ok ... if this is for the 2022 return be aware that much of the program is not fully updated or functional yet especially the states. Note the dates of ESTIMATED availability here ... until that date has past this is not a BUG or program ERROR to report : https://form-status.app.intuit.com/tax-forms-availability/formsavailability?albRedirect=true&product...
No, I haven't seen the 2022 program. I am basing this on the past several years. It has been happening for a while and I didn't know where to report it and just kept hoping it would get corrected.
By mentioning it now, I am hoping it will be addressed and fixed for 2022.
How do I get it escalated?
Any employees out there? I'd really like to get this looked at without having to take the time for a phone call. Can we escalate it from here?
Thank you
Really doubt it at this time of the year that anything will be escalated but I'll alert the moderator to this thread.
With the updates, I was able today to go to "Schedule A" of AL Form 40 and reduce my charitable deductions by the amount of the donation to the SGO (doesn't match amount on Federal Schedule A now)--can't do it from the interview. I still get a caution when I enter the donation in the interview portion of the Alabama return.
This meets the intent of the original post as I understand it.
Note also, if you don't itemize for federal 2022, you won't have to pay federal tax on your AL 2022 refund that you receive in 2023. (May depend on your individual income and tax situation)
